SEL & Wellness Implementation

About SEL & Wellness Teams

DPS is committed to serving the whole child through effective school-based teams that bring together multiple role perspectives on social-emotional learning and wellness. This page offers resources to support the school-based planning that promotes SEL competency development.

Wellness is integrative in that it requires balancing our mind, emotions, body, and spirit. DPS teams focus on culture and climate practices as part of Priority 2 in the DPS Strategic Plan, which focuses on the physical and emotional safety and developing strategies that support the whole child. SEL & Wellness teams should be structured to honor that balance, and this section highlights resources that support implementation through that lens.

Personal SEL Reflection

Research shows that the number one characteristic for high functioning teams is trust. This CASEL tool allows school-based teams to build individual and group self-awareness towards that goal.

The Panorama Education Social-Emotional Learning Survey is our primary tool for DPS SEL & Wellness teams to identify and develop the core SEL competencies of our students. The data, which is collected from surveys at the beginning and the end of each year, are also used to identify students who may need additional SEL supports.

A positive connection to at least one adult can have incredible benefits that include reduced bullying, lower drop-out rates, and improved social emotional capacities. This tool supports a gap-free system to ensure each child is connected with a caring adult in the school community.
